Contexte
In the new area of the internet-of-things, an increasing amount of connected objects are being integrated into our daily lives. Naturally, with being more accessible to users their
physical access is also becoming easier for malicious users. In addition to classical attacks, these
systems are vulnerable to hardware attacks. Among these, side-channel attacks (SCA) can infer
secret information from physical observations measured during the execution of sensitive computations. SCA based on power and electromagnetic observations are particularly harmful because they
have been successfully applied to many different kinds of secured computations; furthermore, they
are non-intrusive, hence difficult to detect. Still, the nature and characterization of side-channel
leakage from power and electromagnetic emanation is not well studied yet, in particular, in regards
to the micro-architecture.
Mission

Main Objectives:

  • Understanding and modeling power leakages due to micro-architectural features.
  • Test vector definition to trigger side-channel leakage caused by some micro-architectural features.
  • Side-channel measurements on different Arm platforms using our lab equipment.
  • Side-channel exploitation analysis.
  • Exchange and collaborate with other partners in the project.
  • Publications in top-rated conferences/journals.
Profil / Compétences
We are looking for team players who are motivated and able to drive top-quality
research. The area of research lies between several fields and we expect at least competences in one
of them:
– embedded devices/micro-architecture, and/or
– side-channel analysis, and/or
– statistics, machine learning, deep learning.
Additionally, an ideal candidate should have:
– Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related fields,
– good programming skills,
– good level in written and spoken English,
– motivation to save the world.
