IRISA is proud to partner with AlgoTouch, the website that teaches you how to design basic algorithms without prior knowledge of programming languages.

In this period of lockdown, what would you say to discover and learn about programming with AlgoTouch?
AlgoTouch is a software that allows progressive learning of programming, without the need to know computer languages! To do this, you simply move and manipulate, directly on screen, graphic objects that represent the data of an algorithm, and thus build the program step by step.

Who is this software for?
AlgoTouch is for anyone who wants to understand the basics of programming. The objective is not to train programmers but to allow users to create their own program by direct manipulation of data without knowledge of computer languages.

But AlgoTouch is also an excellent tool for computer science teachers to explain and build, in an interactive way, basic algorithms. Through this tool, the teacher introduces the manipulations and then introduces the elements of computer languages.

How does it work?

The originality of AlgoTouch lies in the simple manipulation of graphical objects representing the elements of an algorithm. On a computer screen or an interactive table, the user will move these graphic objects, record these movements (translated into instructions), then execute the sequence of actions to check whether the result corresponds to his expectations thanks to the program generated by AlgoTouch.
The user can thus perform basic functions such as creating variables, arrays, indexes and executing operations, record the sequence of actions (perform loops or macro instructions) and replay it automatically.
In the end, the user manipulates the objects of the algorithm and the software automatically builds the program.

Who create AlgoTouch?
AlgoTouch is a project developed by 3 teacher-researchers from UBS: P.Frison, professor emeritus, member of IRISA, M.Adam and M.Daoud, associates professors.

Want to discover AlgoTouch? Dowload it on https://algotouch.irisa.fr and follow the tutorials to learn how to use this very intuitive software easily and in a playful way.  Have fun!

AlgoTouch is associated with Class’Code course
Class'Code, is an innovative training program, which trains since the beginning of the 2016 school year professionals in education and animation to give them the means to initiate girls and boys from 8 to 14 years old to computer thinking.

It consists of more than 40 concrete activities to be carried out with children with or without a computer to introduce them to the history of computers and key digital concepts.
