In his doctoral dissertation, MSc Davi Rabbouni de Carvalho Freitas investigates how complex visual data representing real-world scenes—known as plenoptic representations—can be made more practical for real-time rendering and interactive streaming. The research introduces new ways to compress and optimize Plenoptic Point Clouds and Radiance Field models, enabling faster and more efficient rendering of 3D content in immersive applications.
How can we capture and transmit all the visual information of a scene efficiently enough for interactive use? This question is at the heart of the doctoral research of Davi Rabbouni de Carvalho Freitas, who has worked as an Early-State Researcher in the Plenoptima European Training network focusing on the exploration of the plenoptic function and its role in representing volumetric 3D data.
