Scientific departments IRISA (from 2011 to Jan. 2022)

The 7 scientific departments of IRISA

Organization by department before 2022.  See the current updated organization here

Large Scale Systems (D1)

Study of distributed systems in a broad sense, covering distributed operating systems, parallel execution environments, middleware and frameworks for designing and running distributed applications. The department addresses a variety of issues arising from large-scale computer systems featuring a large number of machines and/or users and/or data, typically in cloud, fog or IoT networks or in HPC.
CIDRE, EMSEC, SPICY, KERDATA, MYRIADS, WIDE

Networks, telecommunication and services (D2)

Implementation and evaluation of communication networks, adapted to the increasing heterogeneity of terminals, applications and interaction modes.
ADOPNET, CASA, DIONYSOS, EASE, OCIF

Architecture (D3)

Development of architectures and compilation tools for multi and many core heterogeneous systems, for general purpose platforms or for embedded systems, taking into account the constraints of performance, real-time, consumption or limited resources.
CAIRN, GRANIT, PACAP

Language and Software Engineering (D4)

Assists in building safe, secure and effective programs that run in dynamic and uncertain environments. The methods used cover a broad spectrum: language aspects, models, analysis and proof of programs, software engineering, control. The recent convergence between embedded software and cyber-physical systems also induces new challenges in terms of self-management and security, in addition to the traditional issues in efficiency and functional correctness. This results in two main line of work: model-based system/software engineering; and verification and machine-checked program analysis.

ARCHWARE, CELTIQUE, DIVERSE, HYCOMES, LOGICA, SUMO, TAMIS, TEA

Signal and Digital Images, Robotics (D5)

The department contributes research on the formalization, design and experimentation of models and algorithms to process, transmit and transform digital signals and data stemming from a variety of physical phenomena, with a focus on acoustic and audio signals, video and visual data, motion signals and captures, medical images, geoscience observations, and physical embodiment and interaction with the environment (robotics).
EMPENN, OBELIX, PANAMA, RAINBOW, SIROCCO

Media AND interactions (D6)

Use of one or more modalities or media: text, speech, sound, image, video or 3D environment. Research is devoted to the aspects of analysis, modeling, generation and usage. The objective is either to reproduce human behavior or to enable interactions with data and documents that are relevant to humans.
EXPRESSION, HYBRID, INTUIDOC, LINKMEDIA, MIMETIC, PERCEPT

Data and Knowledge Management (D7)

Data processing and more specifically the exploration of the relationships between data and knowledge. At the heart of artificial intelligence, work focuses on the storage, querying and visualization of massive or complex data, as well as the exploitation and enhancement of this data.
DRUID, DYLISS, GENSCALE, LACODAM, SEMLIS, SHAMAN
