NeuroBase :

An Information System for Managing Distributed
Knowledge and Data Bases in Neuroimaging

IRISA/CNRS-Rennes

France

Vista Project (http://www.irisa.fr/vista) of CNRS/INRIA research center in Rennes, France (http://www.irisa.fr) opens a one year CNRS postdoctoral position, starting end of 2002 or beginning of 2003. This position is open to computer scientists with background on data base, informatics, web-based processing, data warehouse, mediator/wrappers, 3D medical imaging and neuroimaging. The position is specifically open to non-french resident, English or French will be the working language.

Topic

Based on a French national grant from the French ministry of Research, Neurobase (www.irisa.fr/vista/neurobase) is a cooperative project which aims to establish the conditions allowing, through Internet the federation of distributed information data bases in neuroimaging, information being located in various centers of experimentation, clinical departments in neurology or research centers in cognitive neurosciences. The Neurobase project consist in specifying how to connect and access distributed information data bases in neuroimaging by the definition of a data-processing architecture allowing the access and the sharing of experimentation results or even data processing methods within a same site or between different sites. This would allow for example, within these information data bases, the search for similar results, the search for images containing singularities or transverse searches to highlight possible regularities (similarly to a "data mining" type approach).

The goal of this position is to elaborate a demonstrator based on some existing modules (Le Select, BrainVISA/Anatomist , VIsTAL, …) and functionalities such as data wrappers & mediators, medical image processing methods (data access, registration, segmentation, visualization, …) and data flow approaches. This demonstrator will be developed and tested in the context of two major applications:

-          Clinical application dealing with epilepsy surgery

-          Cognitive application dealing with the delineation of the visual cortex areas

Secondary applications could also be addressed such as brain degenerative diseases in neurology.

This work will be carried out in collaboration with the Neurobase team partners (see below).
