Robert Ross

Senior Researcher, Rob Ross is a pioneer in the design of parallel file systems and high-performance interfaces for managing large datasets. He led the development of the Parallel Virtual File System (PVFS) used in many academic, industry, and laboratory settings, including leadership-class computing facilities. He leads storage research in the Department of Energy SciDAC Enabling Technology Center for Scientific Data Management and is the Deputy Director of the Scalable Data Management, Analysis, and Visualization (SDAV) Institute, recently created as part of the White House's $200M Big Data R&D Initiative launched in March 2012. His research aims to develop tools to help researchers address challenges in storage, retrieval, and the extraction of meaning from very large scientific datasets.

Kate Keahey

Kate Keahey is a Senior Researcher at Argonne National Laboratory, pioneered the use of virtual machines in distributed computing which grew into Infrastrucutre-as-a-Service (IaaS) cloud computing. A strong advocate of cloud computing for multidisciplinary science, she led numerous projects focused on overcoming barriers to its adoption as well as proposing and exploring new interaction patterns emerging in this context. Kate created and leads the Nimbus project, an open source cloud computing platform providing Infrastructure-as-a-Service as well as higher-level services for scientific communities. She leads research on virtualization, resource management, and cloud computing.
