DataCloud@Work

DataCloud@Work is an associated team between KerData and Myriads teams from INRIA Rennes - Bretagne Atlantique and the Computer Science Department from Politehnica University of Bucharest.

Our research topics address the area of distributed data management for cloud services. We aim at investigating several open issues related to autonomic storage in the context of cloud services. The goal is explore how to build an efficient, secure and reliable storage IaaS for data-intensive distributed applications running in cloud environments by enabling an autonomic behavior, while leveraging the advantages of the grid operating system approach.

Our research activities involve the design and implementation of experimental prototypes based on the following software platforms:

  • The BlobSeer data-sharing platform (designed by the KerData Team)
  • The XtreemOS grid operation system (designed under the leadership of the Myriads Team)
  • The MonALISA monitoring framework (using the expertise of the PUB Team).

Initial project description: DataCloud@Work

Coordinators

  • French coordinator of the Associate Team: Gabriel Antoniu (KerData team, INRIA)
  • Second French coordinator: Christine Morin (MYRIADS team, INRIA)
  • Romanian coordinator: Valentin Cristea (PUB)

2012: Highlights

  • Co-funding: To complement INRIA's support for this associate team we obtained a 5000 euros co-funding from the Romanian partner through the ERRIC project (FP7 Capacities Work Programme: Research Potential call for proposals on “Unlocking and developing the research potential of research entities established in the EU´s convergence regions and outermost regions.”).
  • Visiting Post-docs and PhD students: 3 Postdoc fellows from PUB visited KerData for 1 month/1 week/1 week and 1 PhD student from PUB was hosted in Rennes for 2 months. The full list of visits is available here.
  • Bachelor theses: 2 Bachelor theses in Bucharest were dedicated to subtasks derived from the scientific schedule of the DataCloud@work Associate Team. Details are available here.
  • Master theses: Two Master students were hosted for 6 months for their Master internships at KerData. Details are available here.
