I am a PhD student in the IRISA/INRIA / TEXMEX reasearch team at the University of Rennes 1, working on "Security analysis of image copy detection systems based on descriptors" under the supervision of Ewa KIJAK, Laurent AMSALEG, Teddy FURON and Patrick GROS.
The growing number of digital documents causes the development of economic activities as well as malicious practices: they are exchanged, stored, marketed but also illegally copied. To prevent unauthorized duplication, watermarking and DRM (Digital Right Management) systems were developed. In addition to these techniques, in the field of the image and video, content-based recognition systems appeared. These systems were initially developed in collaborative contexts, where they ensured mediation between a collection of documents and a search for information. Their use in a hostile context raises the problem of their security: is it possible for a dishonest user to mislead such a system so that it doesn't recognize a copy? Or, on the contrary, is it possible to create some kind of "false" documents that are recognized by the system whatever the request? The goal of my thesis is to examine this new problem of characterizing the security of existing content-based copy detection system.
At present, I focus the attack on SIFT-based CBIR systems. The achieved results give a alarm to CBIR systems based on SIFT also other local descriptors.
