Liviu Iftode seminar, 9 june, 2pm
Liviu Iftode from Rutgers University (USA), invited professor at INSA Rennes within Myriads, will give a seminar on the 9th June at 2pm in the Aurigny meeting room.
Title: Systems and Security Research in Ubiquitous Mobile Computing
Abstract
Todays' increasing need for ubiquitous computing is realized by multiple coexisting technologies, ranging from powered-constrained smart phones
and other mobile devices to completely infrastructure-based solutions.
This range of technologies along with the specifics of ubiquitous
computing
applications brings new challenges to systems and security research,
which
cannot be solved within the traditional computing framework.
In my talk, I will present several ongoing projects in our Laboratory
for
Networked Systems and Security (DiscoLab) that address systems and
security
issues encountered in mobile computing today. Central to all these
projects
is the smart phone, a device that has dramatically evolved from a
ubiquitous
communication device to a ubiquitous mobile computer. More specifically,
I
will talk about (i) how smart phones can be used as self-cleaning
portable
caches for the execution environment of mobile users, (ii) how to
restrict
the remote access to a network file system from an untrusted device
using
the working-set model, and (iii) how rootkits can become a major threat
for
smart phones and how to defend against them.
