MYRIADS members win Deployment Challenge at Grid'5000 school
The Large Scale Deployment Challenge took place during the Grid'5000 Spring School 2010. Users showcased tools and environments aiding at deploying distributed or grid middleware on Grid'5000. Participants were evaluated according to the following criteria: (1) deployment time, (2) complexity of the deployed middleware, (3) ease of deployment by other users, (4) interest of the deployed middleware for the community, and (5) elegance of the solution.
The challenge winner was Pierre Riteau and the runner-up was Marko Obrovac, both members of the MYRIADS research team.
Pierre Riteau demonstrated the deployment of a sky computing environment based on nimbus in 31min! This included the deployment of the nodes using kadeploy3 and their configuration to form a sky computing environment located in 3 sites and managing 278 VMMs providing 1628 virtual cpus and 2 124 Gb of memory. Marko Obrovac demonstrated scripts enabling the deployment of XtreemOS on Grid'5000. The scripts brought up a linux-ssi flavour version of XtreemOS putting a virtual SMP of 156 processors online in less than 30min. They both won an ipod touch for their entry.
