Research at IRISA (Introduction)
IRISA conducts research in computer science, applied mathematics and signal and image processing.
Its work focuses on the most current cross-disciplinary fields, such as the Internet of the future and the need to take security into account (not only in networks but also in software and content), and computational sciences (combining digital technology with other disciplines such as biology, mechanics and medicine).
These subjects also tie in with the ICT Labs Knowledge and Innovation Community (http://www.eitictlabs.eu/) and the strategic priorities of the Images and Networks innovation cluster, in which IRISA is heavily involved.
The unit’s research activities are also geared towards important fields of application such as healthcare, the environment, transport and multimedia. IRISA is actively pursuing a strategy of involving itself in multi-disciplinary research in fields such as bio-informatics, the study of flows in geophysical environments and the study of drainage basins, molecular dynamics, monitoring of concrete constructions using statistical and mechanical engineering approaches, virtual reality and biomechanical models, to cite but a few examples.
